The Annual Corporate Tax In Costa Rica

All Corporations and LLC´s registered in Costa Rica must pay the Annual Corporate Tax during the month of January of every year.

The amount of the tax for “Active Companies”, is a progressive rate. “Active Companies”, refers to companies that have business activities and are registered before the Tax Administration as income taxpayers.

The tax for Inactive companies, these are the companies that only hold assets, but do not perform any business activities is approximately US$120.00.

The Corporate Tax must be kept up to date every year since the law has a provision that imposes a mandate to the Public Registry to automatically dissolve any company which has three (3) annual payments in arrears.

After the 3 years in arrears, the company will be automatically dissolved and then it would have to be liquidated and the assets must be transferred to a new Corporation or LLC.

This is why it is important to keep this tax up to date every year.
